October 13 – 18
As participants in the Games we received passes for free public transport around Sydney & we made good use of them. Took the trains, busses & ferries and saw lots.
- buskers in Darling Harbour
- the Queen Victoria Building full of shops, an old style ‘lift’ with stained glass panels (there really should have been an operator to ask which floor), two large ornate clocks
- the Strand, another shopping area that extended between 2 city blocks
- a few Starbucks!
- the oldest church in Sydney – St. James Anglican – where Jane & I attended church
- Government House and the Royal Botanic Gardens with a centuries old pine
- a stop along the river – Abbotsford
- wonderful Aussie pies (visited by movie stars from Sinatra to Russel Crowe to Elton John)
- beaches, park areas with fantastic views, an open air market under the Harbour Bridge
- an interesting coffee shop down one of the lanes in ‘the Rocks’
And a beautiful sunset over the harbour.
