Out & About around Sydney

October 13 – 18

As participants in the Games we received passes for free public transport around Sydney & we made good use of them.  Took the trains, busses & ferries and saw lots.

  • buskers in Darling Harbour

  • the Queen Victoria Building full of shops, an old style ‘lift’ with stained glass panels (there really should have been an operator to ask which floor), two large ornate clocks
  • the Strand, another shopping area that extended between 2 city blocks

  • a few Starbucks!

  • the oldest church in Sydney – St. James Anglican – where Jane & I attended church

  • Government House and the Royal Botanic Gardens with a centuries old pine
  • a stop along the river – Abbotsford

09-10-14 a ferry stop along the river

  • wonderful Aussie pies (visited by movie stars from Sinatra to Russel Crowe to Elton John)

  • beaches, park areas with fantastic views, an open air market under the Harbour Bridge
  • an interesting coffee shop down one of the lanes in ‘the Rocks’
