November 10
Drove through twisty mountain roads to ‘90 mile beach campsite’.
Then let the bus driver take us up the beach highway (actually only 64 miles). Entered on a road, but exited on a fresh water stream bed (it was flowing!)
Tasman sea was cold
and so was the Pacific
Stooped at one point to toboggan down the sand dunes
At Cape Reinga – the furthest north point of NZ – the Tasman Sea meets the Pacific Ocean. Walked down to the lighthouse on the point where you can see the 2 oceans come together.
Stopped for a lunch along the way – Tapotupotu Bay – scones, crackers, instant coffee, juice. Then later stopped for a whopper of an ice cream cone at Te Kao. Found a white sand beach at Rarawa and a harbour at Houhora with water so still and clear.
Back home after a full day for Gerry to do his chores…
