November 15
Rotorua is a geothermal area (smelly sulphur!). Geysers, mud pools, boiling ponds and hot foot baths right in the middle of the city. All of the next photos are from one of the city parks. There are fences erected to protect the ‘hot spots’! The bubbles in one of them are from boiling water!)
The museum, the baths,
the Government gardens,
and the black swans swimming on the lake were all very interesting.
Gerry found a playground and shared the rides nicely with the other children.
He also found some adult rides – the Zorb (a sphere that you sit inside for a wild ride down the hill) and the Shweeb. You sit in a gondola-like container which is suspended from a track. Then you pedal three times around the track on a timed speed run. He did pretty good – for his age group!
After his ride was finished, we looked in the field behind us & found some other spectators…
Another beautiful sunset, but this time we are inland for the night at Taupo.
