November 11
After one last look at the 90 mile beach/highway, at yesterdays tour bus starting out and at a Toyota that didn’t travel at high tide (but was lucky to get towed out)…
we set out. for the day. Didn’t travel far – about 120 km, but managed to check out 2 golf courses – Carrington (on the Karikari Peninsula) where we stopped for a photo shoot. (There was also a vineyard – viewed at 80km.)
and Kerikeri at Kerikeri (no golf course photos, but another interesting bridge access and some different ‘pets’ on main street).
Stopped for lunch at Mangonui for its famous fish & chips in a restaurant that extended out over the water.
The fish & chips were excellent & the view was awesome!
On to Russell to camp for the night arriving by car ferry (to save a couple of hours drive). Beautiful ocean view from our campsite.
But first a stop at the oldest licensed Hotel in NZ – the Duke of Marlborough – est 1827 and right on the water’s edge.
