the Coromandel Peninsula

November 13

(Or Black Friday as it is referred to here – since it is Friday the 13th.)

First a photo for HB – when we move here this is where I will work!!

It was a day of long and winding roads over one lane bridges and sometimes one lane HIGHWAYS (it was a major route, the Pacific Coast Highway!).  At times we met or followed big logging trucks – glad I wasn’t driving them!  Up and down and around & around.  We travelled about 350km and it took us about 8 hours.  Very pretty – what I saw of it, as I had my eyes closed most of the time.  (Narrow roads, no shoulders, sharp turns, need I say more Brenda?)

Stopped in to Hot Water Beach where at low tide you can dig a hole in the sand and create your own spa as it will fill with water from hot springs under the sand.  Carol, it was the kind with a steep slope and suitable warnings about the currents.

Stopping at Papamoa Beach for the night – very pretty.  Here’s a view from the camper and then a close up of the beach…
